Supplements to Fuel Your Performance
Supplements are a tough subject. People have many different opinions on what to take, when to take it and how much. Starting out, I went the way of the bodybuilder and loaded up on whey protein, thermogenics, pre-wrokouts and multi-vitamins. That easily cost me a lot of time and money and I didn’t get the results I wanted.
Most of the supplement companies can hook you with those before and after pictures. The guy or girl in the photo lost 20-30 pounds in a month and is shredded. I’m willing to bet that was what they looked like before they bloated up for the “before” picture.
Either way, I’ve cut back on everything and found a group of go-to supplements:
Hemp Force Protein
Hemp Force is a hemp based protein from Onnit. This is one of the best tasting protein shakes I’ve ever had. There are no artificial flavorings and they use hemp as the source of the protein. It seems to be the cleanest and best protein I’ve tried. No longer do I get bloated or gassy. This stuff tastes great and works. I really believe in Onnit and their products. They are on the leading edge of supplement manufacturing today.
This is a pre-workout supplement that does not use all of the caffeine and creatine you’re used to seeing in the powder supplements. It’s another natural combination from Onnit and it works great. There’s no jittery, shaky feeling like you get from all of the other pre-workout brands. No highs and no crash. Just steady focus and energy to last you through your workout. While you don’t feel any real effects, you notice the performance gains.
This is the 3rd piece to my Onnit stack. AlphaBrain provides mental clarity and acuity. I take a dose each morning along with a cup of coffee. I feel sharp, quick and alert. It’s a great way to get your day started and productivity flowing. Coming from Onnit, it’s an all-natural blend sourced from the Earth.
This is my choice of greens as of now. I use Green Vibrance as a multi-vitamin and probiotic. It’s another supplement that I take in the morning. You get nutrients that you may miss throughout the day along with the benefits of a probiotic. I’m still trying to decide if it’s the best and I’ll be testing others along the way.
Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega
This is my fish oil supplement. I have to take a fish oil supplement to help with my cholesterol levels (per my doctor). It’s a clean for of oil and provides a solid dose of EPA and DHA for mental and physical well being.
These are the supplements I’m using. Through a few years of trial and error, I’ve settled in on this stack of supplements. An addition of MCT Oil may be my next venture. Let me know what you think about these supplements in the comments.
